A recent survey found that the number one concern of renters was fire damage with about 54% saying that it would take three or more years to replace everything they lost without insurance yet fewer than half of renters have insurance.
Many renters believe that if anything happened their landlords insurance would cover their things as well. Unfortunately, in most instances this is not the case. The landlords insurance provides coverage for the building and any property they own and have purchased insurance for however it will probably not cover the property of the tenants.
For as little as $10 a month (even less if you have renters and auto insurance with the same agent or company) a renter in MA can get a policy with between $20,000-$30,000 in coverage for their belongings and $500,000 in liability coverage.
