Hurricane season officially started June 1st and continues through November 30th. Everyone really MUST have a kit prepared in case of emergency.
I have prepared a special area in my cellar already, and am putting together my kit this weekend. So I challenge you to go find a safe area in your home and put a kit together this Labor Day weekend as well. Having a kit ready and in place, takes away some stress, so there is nothing to do except get your family to safety. The emergency kit should have supplies for about 72 hours.
Make sure to check out the link below, there are some great tips and reminders about everyday items to include. When watches and warnings are issued, you will become stressed and concerned- and that is when everyday necessities get overlooked. So again, make sure to pack the kit AHEAD of time. Include your pet's supplies as well when packing a kit, they are family too!
And you will need to grab some items at the store. My guess is you will be at the grocery store this weekend, so check out the link and add a couple items to your list. The supplies needed, should last for most of Hurricane season without having to be restocked. Last but not least, don't forget to charge your cell phone and bring it with you!
Stay safe and enjoy the rest of your summer!
