Do you have a seasonal home or manufactured home? If so, it is time to get the property ready for winter. Please make sure to check in with your insurance agent as well. Verify that the proper amount of coverage on the structure is in place, and if you are leaving any personal belongings there, make sure your insurance has it covered!
When you button up any seasonal property, make sure all the major systems are in good working order. Pay special attention to the water pipes. Make sure they are properly prepared, so they don't freeze over the winter. Foremost has a great checklist for manufactured homes in particular, check out this link: http://www.foremost.com/mygreathome/?v=a&an=winterize-your-manufactured-home
If not winterizing the water pipes, make sure to maintain heat, and that your system is in proper working order. See page 6 of the Homeowners 3 Form - excluding damage from frozen pipes and the ensuing damage (when a home is unoccupied) if you do take steps to either maintain heat in the building; or turn off the water supply and drain the system and appliances.
So be prepared and check with your agent or carrier with any questions you may have. Visit our website for lots of insurance tips and reminders.
