All You Ever Wanted to Know About Insurance

Be careful when purchasing a vehicle

Even with this crazy New England weather, spring is here and you may be thinking of a new or used car purchase. Whether you are purchasing a vehicle for yourself or helping a child get their first car, be aware of the following items...

If you are purchasing a car for yourself, the new/used car title and registration paperwork must match your policyholder information. You will need an insurance stamp before going to the registry of motor vehicles.

If you are purchasing a car for your child, and they will become the registered owner, you can NOT add the car to your policy. (Even if your child was listed as a driver on one of your vehicles)

The vehicle owner/purchaser is responsible for obtaining insurance. With privacy laws in place, the car purchaser must contact the agency and request a quote. An application and deposit on the insurance is required. An insurance stamp is needed before going to the registry.

** The same rules apply for a lease if the person leasing the vehicle is not exactly the same as the policyholder and a new policy may be required.**

There may be a couple exceptions to the cases above if a spouse is involved. Always call your insurance agent/company to discuss changes BEFORE leaving a car dealership, or taking title to a private sale vehicle. There is no greater disappointment than buying a car and finding out it can't be registered for use right away. We want you to be covered and get to enjoy your vehicle asap!

Visit the registry site for information on registration do and don'ts and ALWAYS speak with your insurance agent for policy do and don'ts. Request a quote online by visiting :
